Family School Partnership
Family School Partnership
FSP provides families with the support they need to navigate an unfamiliar country and educational system.
Many of our families arrive in the United States without formal schooling and many more pre-literate, and have little knowledge of English. This makes navigating an education system designed for literate English speakers an immense challenge. Schools become overwhelming for parents as they encounter unfamiliar bureaucratic forms, procedures, and customs, all in an unfamiliar language.
The Family-School Partnership program aims to diminish the fear and alienation refugee families face when engaging with the education system.
Every family has an FSP officer dedicated to making sure their academic needs are met. We provide parents with a trusted professional partner who advocates for them in meetings with school faculty and supports them in accessing important resources, with the ultimate goal of empowering parents to do so on their own.
